It was with great sadness that we said goodbye to Ritse 322 on Friday 28 June 2013. The big stallion with the soft heart was enduring a very difficult winter and when he started having difficulty to walk we knew the most difficult decision for any horse lover would have to be made very soon. He spent his last day grazing on the greenest grass we could find next to a camp full of young mares that kept him company during the day. We did not leave his side and with the grace that Ritse 322 was known for he moved on to a place where he would no longer feel pain. We have truly been blessed here at Doorndraai to have been able to spend the last six years of this iconic stallion’s life with him and he has taught humans and horses alike lessons we will carry with us always. Ritse has left deep tracks on the International and South African Friesian Society and it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of our most beloved family members. We would also like to say thank you to all the messages from all over the world during this difficult time.
