Across the board, the March 2017 inspection was a great success with good results in all the inspection categories for Doorndraai Friesian Stud. The team worked hard in the months leading up to the inspection to ensure the horses would be well prepared. With just over 30 horses to judge it was a full day for inspectors Will Tijsen and Ester Reen. As usual the day kicked off with the foals followed by star judging, Premie keuring of Crown mares and last but not least Friso fan S. ‘Sport’, Tjalf 443 ‘Sport’ and Weird 409 ‘Sport’ were looked at by the inspectors.
The biggest highlight of the inspection was when Raven van Doorndraai (Tjalf 443 ‘Sport’) was awarded star 2nd premie which means her dam Katinka van Doorndraai Bb1 Star (Adel vd Lievendaal) became the studs first own bred Preferent mare. A number of mares have become Preferent at Doorndraai but Katinka is the first mare that was bred by Marlise Botes to achieve this prestigious title. The other mares to be awarded Preferent at Doorndraai were Loret Bb1 Pref *5 (deceased), Rita van Geyerspan Bb1 Star Pref *5 (deceased), Nyncke fan e Visscherwei Stb
Star Pref *4 and also at the 2017 inspection Neenke fan Bokkum Stb Star Pref *4 when Potter van Doorndraai Vb H (Tjalf 443 ‘Sport’) was awarded star. This means, at present Doorndraai owns three Preferent mares.
Unfortunately the only IBOP that was to be ridden during the inspection was that of Lucinda van Doorndraai which had to be cancelled when she came down with a case of billary.
The good results across the board shows the depth of quality of the Doorndraai Friesians and the years of commitment to correct breeding and practices by Marlise and Danie Botes. With a solid commitment to stick to the breeding standards set out by the KFPS in the Netherlands there is no doubt that the quality of the Friesians bred by Doorndraai Friesian Stud is right up there with the best in the world.
This year will also see the first edition of the Elite Doorndraai Auction held on 27 May 2017 at Doorndraai where breeders and Friesian enthusiasts get the opportunity to buy some of the best breeding stock and Sport horses South Africa has to offer. For more info visit our On Auction page.
